Video: Fabricated Tube Mounts

You've seen them used a few times over the past year, but what are they and how do you make them?

That's a question many of you have written in and asked. Here is your answer.

Fabricated tube mounts are nothing more than a disc welded to the end of a tube. This serves as a mounting for any tube assembly or part to mount or mate up to a surface or another assembly.

Some key points you need to know:

  • Fabricated tube mounts can be made out of different diameters of tubing.
  • The hole at the end of the tube can be virtually any size
  • Washers are commonly used for lite loads
  • Every fabricated tube mount can be made threaded or non-threaded

Threading your fabricated tube mount requires only one extra step which is shown in the video. Just remember that stainless steel hardware is better to use when welding. Coated hardware will not only make a bad looking weld, but the fumes from burning the zinc coating on plated hardware are extremely harmful to your lungs.

Also remember to use flange nuts on your threaded fabricated tube mounts. The flange allows for a greater surface area and keeps the heat from the weld farther away from the threads which will reduce damage to them.
